Description:
Supervisor of all functions of the Highway Department. This includes winter operations, road maintenance, drainage. Oversight of the Highway Department and aids with oversight of the Sewer and Water Districts.
Essential job functions:
Directs, coordinates, supervises and assist with all phases of the Highway Department with road maintenance, storm drain construction and maintenance, snow and ice control and/or removal, equipment repair and maintenance and other related work, such as mowing and brush removal.
Prepares and presents to the Budget officer the annual Highway Budget and monitors the budget on an on-going basis, with an oversight of expenditures and the accomplishment of work priorities.
Directs department purchasing activities, including the preparation of technical specifications for equipment, materials and other items to be purchased. Reviews submitted bills and authorizes acceptance and payment.
Confers and coordinates activities as necessary with citizens, contractors, suppliers and other Town departments.
Receives, investigates and resolves complaints from the public that deal with the Highway's responsibilities and functions.
Supervises and evaluates the work and performance of employees.
Reviews and coordinates maintenance of town owned buildings and properties.
Responsibilities:
The town superintendent of highways is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of town highways along with the removal of obstructions caused by brush and snow. Schedules work assignments, monitors and directs work activities, promotes and maintains morale, conducts or facilitates training, ensures work is performed safely, evaluates employee work performance and is responsible for keeping all related work records. He is also responsible for the employment and management of highway department employees at set rates of compensation and within the appropriations authorized by the town board.
Hours of Operation:
Summer hours: 6am -4pm Monday - Thursday
Winter hours: 5am - 1pm Monday - Friday
